West Coast Cup is a team tennis tournament for players with a ranking no higher than C (aka WC Cup). GLTA Clubs from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Palm Springs and Vancouver put together teams to compete.

The first West Coast Cup was held in San Diego in 2011. In 2013, Vancouver was added to the roster of cities participating. In 2018, Vancouver merged with Seattle to form a team to participate in West Coast Cup. This tournament is hosted by a rotation of participating clubs – so the location varies each year.

Each participating club puts together a team composed of at least 12 players. This will allow for 12 singles and 6 doubles pairs. The tournament is expected to occur over one weekend during the month of August each year (unless there is unanimous agreement among City Captains to move the date to a different month).

FAQs

What is the cost?

VTA members who wish to participate are required to cover several costs involved in participating in this tournament, including:

  • Tournament entry fee (often partly subsidized by VTA for members)
  • Flights
  • Accommodation (for tournaments in other cities)

For travel, often VTA members will share accommodation (like an Airbnb) to save costs and build team camaraderie.
