Membership Benefits

The Vancouver Tennis Association is a non-profit organization run entirely by dedicated volunteers. Our annual membership fee allows the VTA to run affordable year-round programs that support and promote tennis in the 2SLGBTQ+ community 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

We do not offer tennis lessons or coaching but provide a safe space and outlet for ongoing tennis play through our various programs.

We recommend members be at self-rated NTRP 2.5 level or higher to get the most from our programs. Your rating does not need to be verified. Use the guidelines our rating page to help you determine yours. NTRP is indicator of tennis-playing ability, from 1.5 (beginner) through 7.0 (touring pro).

Our membership fee entitles you to:

  • Access to our weekly Social Doubles Play Sessions (year-round)
  • Invitations to attend various social events
  • Club Championships
  • Join the VTA team in competitions and Cups – including our teams in Tennis BC’s Spring League
  • Ongoing Singles Ladder that runs throughout the year
  • Regular updates via our member newsletter
  • Member discounts from our sponsors (when available)
  • Attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to shape the future of your club!

All members must agree to and abide by our Code of Conduct.

Who can join the Vancouver Tennis Association?

The VTA is a 2SLGBTQ+ association; we welcome everyone that enjoys the game of tennis. You do not need to identify as part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community to be a member – we don’t discriminate. We have members from 18 to 80+ (minors will need permission from a guardian).

We recommend players be at a self-rated NTRP 2.5 level or higher to get the most from our club (more details on NTRP ratings) as we do not offer coaching or tennis lessons for beginners to the game.

We do not accept discrimination or harassment of any kind, including based on age, gender, sexual orientation, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. Read our code of conduct.

I’m not sure about joining the VTA, can you help?

We know that joining a new group can be daunting. We are a friendly inclusive bunch. Please reach out to one of our volunteer Executive Committee members, we can answer any of your questions and pair you up with a buddy for your first events/programs.

Let us know what will help you and we will do our best to provide it.

What are the additional costs?

We are completely volunteer-run so all membership dues and fees go into running our club, renting courts, balls etc. Membership is $50 per year.

Any programs you choose to participate in may have additional costs – as a rough outline below are some additional costs:

  • Singles Ladder is free to join (when running)
  • Play Sessions $12 per session you play in
  • Club Championship registration fees vary, but are generally $40-120
  • Social Events may have a ticket price usually around $20 (often covers a drink and some food)
  • Spring League participation also requires a Tennis BC membership (their most basic league-only membership for 2023 was $25 plus tax), and ~$15-18 per session played in
  • Specific cups and tournaments have an outline of costs involved on those pages

You must have your own racquet. Balls are provided for most of our programs and tournaments (with the exception of Singles Ladder).

You do not need to be a club member to participate in Vancouver International Pride tournament.

How are membership dues paid?

Membership is $50 per year for everyone.

New members can pay for a membership via the website. One of our volunteer team will email new members with further details and instructions on getting set up in our membership management app (called “Str8 Sets”, ironically) within 2-5 business days of completing purchase.

Existing members should renew and pay their membership fees via our Str8 Sets.

Payment and credit card information is securely handled by WooCommerce/Stripe on our website, and Stripe within Str8 Sets. More information on Stripe’s security.
