VIP 2010
Greetings VTA & GLTA Members,
The 2010 Vancouver International Pride tennis tournament is fast approaching. It will be held on the Vancouver Pride parade weekend : Fri, July 30 - Mon, Aug 2, 2010. We’re expecting about 100 players this year from across the US, Canada, and around the world to form a fun and competitive field in five divisions. Our chosen charity for fundraising is the Qmunity - the Vancouver gay and lesbian resource centre.
New for this year :Matches will begin on Friday night. Last year we introduced doubles consolation matches and got a lot of great feedback on them. But it can get to be a lot of matches to play in just 2 or 3 days, so we are planning to have an extra day to get us started. This means the welcome and registration night will be held at the tennis courts (likely the Stanley Park Fish House) with matches starting at 6pm on Friday. As always, court availability has been hard to come by, so we are using two tennis facilities on the weekend days of play – Grant Connell Tennis Centre and Stanley Park tennis courts, with the Delta Town and Country Club in case of rain. Most semifinals and finals will be scheduled at Grant Connell on Monday.
We have some exciting raffle prizes to give away, including lots of free tournament entries for other GLTA events. Our banquet/BBQ this year will be a fun-filled garden party held in the beautiful surroundings of Herb DaSilva’s award-winning yard (thank-you Herb!). at 1760 Kitchener Street just off funky Commercial Drive, 6:30-10pm, Sunday, Aug 2.
We’ve worked hard to make this an affordable stop on the GLTA calendar (check out our low prices) register before 1 June, the early bird deadline, to enjoy even more savings.
Cheers!
Charles Friesen
VIP Tournament Director

Given the limited number of courts, players will be restricted to a 5-minute warm-up period and a 15-minute default period. Some matches will be played outdoors if weather permits.
Consolation play will be offered to players who lose their first match. Match format will be 8 game pro-sets (first to 8 games wins), regular scoring, with a 12-point tiebreaker played at 7 games all. If time permits, consolation finals will revert to best two out of three sets, regular scoring.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE & NOTIFICATION
Entries and payment may be submitted by regular mail or email. Electronic payment can be made through karelo.com at:
VIP Online Registration.
A place in the draw will not be held for any entry without proper fees, but players may re-enter at the time payment is made if space is available. All completed and signed entries accompanied by the entry fee must be received by July 15th, 2010.
If you have entered a doubles division and have indicated a partner, your registration will not be accepted into the relevant draw until both entries are received. You may withdraw from the tournament and receive a full refund if you notify the tournament director prior to July 12th, 2010.
Notification emails will be sent to all players whose entries are received by the entry deadline. Please be sure to provide a legible email address.
HOUSING / ACCOMMODATIONS
Vancouver has many hotels at a variety of pricing points. In the past we have recommended the affordable Blue Horizon Hotel in downtown Vancouver.
More inexpensive accommodation may be found at Executive Inn Express Airport (~$109/nt) ph 1-888-388-3932 not far from the tournament venues; at Super 8 Langley Glover Rd (~$79/nt) ph 1-888-561-7666 about 20 km from the tournament venues; or through expedia.ca.
Hosted housing will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis for out-of-town participants. If you are interested in hosted housing, please indicate this on the tournament registration form or contact Charles Friesen at VIP@vtatennis.ca
